The purpose of this series is to provide health professionals with an evidence-based approach to supporting women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) within a multidisciplinary model of care. Content has been developed using current best-practice evidence and guidelines. Learners are encouraged to apply this knowledge in alignment with local policy and within their professional scope of practice.

Program objectives

Upon completion of this e-learning series participants will be able to:

  • Define GDM and differentiate it from other types of diabetes.

  • Demonstrate confidence in educating women with GDM about the condition, treatment options, self-management, risks, and potential complications.

  • Identify the appropriate diagnostic tests used in the medical diagnosis of GDM.

  • Apply enhanced knowledge of caring for women diagnosed with GDM during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.

  • Actively contribute to multidisciplinary discussions and care-planning for women with GDM.

This education series is suitable for members of the multidisciplinary team involved in the care of a woman diagnosed with GDM.
