Starting practice in a new healthcare system can be exciting and challenging. This course been designed to support you as you transition into clinical practice in Australia. Across three interactive modules, you'll build your understanding of the Australian healthcare system, strengthen your communication and clinical engagement skills, and develop confidence in delivering safe, high-quality care.

Program Objectives

  • The structure and role of the Australian and Queensland healthcare systems

  • Your role and responsibilities as a doctor within Queensland Health

  • Effective communication with patients, families and healthcare teams

  • Cultural safety and patient-centred care

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing, with practical insights to support culturally responsive and respectful healthcare

  • Working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

  • Practical strategies to support your transition into practice

Using real-world scenarios, reflective activities and practical resources, you'll gain insights into Australian healthcare practices and build skills that support your everyday clinical work.

  • Working within Multidisciplinary Teams

  • Patient Advocacy and Clinical Escalation

This program is offered statewide through the Centre for Leadership Excellence and may also be offered locally through your HHS/QAS.
