The School Based Youth Health Nurses (SBYHN) Program provides training to safely and effectively practise in the role of a SBYHNwithin Queensland secondary schools. Through five modules and a supporting handbook, learners develop the knowledge and skills to deliver evidence-based health services and health promotion, engage effectively with young people, maintain professional and ethical practice, and support student health and wellbeing across diverse school communities.

Program objectives:

  • Provide statewide governance around the roles and responsibilities of SBYHNs

  • Create a statewide standard for Professional Boundaries of the SBYHNs

  • Introduce adolescent development in the context of schools

  • Provide an overview of the Statewide enhanced sexual health offerings within Queensland Health

  • Outline and define the Health promotion fundamentals for working with and within the secondary school setting
