Simple systems

  • Behaviour is predictable, easy to analyse and static over time.

  • A simple system can be part of a complicated or complex system.

Complicated systems

  • Have more interconnected elements & more dynamic behaviours.

  • Easy to understand with technical knowledge.

  • Behaviour may change over time but in predictable ways.

Complex systems

  • Individual elements and relationships between them are challenging to identify and understand.

  • Elements are constantly changing and predicting behaviour is often not possible.
