Capability, Wellbeing and Leadership
The Capability, Wellbeing and Leadership initiative supports access to educational offerings and conferences to strengthen palliative care workforce wellbeing, leadership and capability growth.
The Palliative Care Workforce Capability Uplift Program (PCWCUP) focuses on enhancing access to education and training development for the palliative care allied health, nursing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Profession workforces in Queensland Health.
Providing access to educational conferences aims to support retention and growth of the specialist palliative care workforce whilst strengthening palliative and end-of-life care for Queensland individuals, families, and carers.
Applications are open through the PCWCUP for eligible palliative care allied health, nursing, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Profession workforces in Queensland Health to seek financial support through a reimbursement process for registration costs to attend one of the following palliative care educational conferences:

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for funding to attend one educational conference (per financial year), applicants must:

Be a Queensland Health employee, employed in a permanent or temporary capacity in a palliative care setting in a Queensland Health hospital or health facility.

Be a palliative care health professional with at least two years cumulative experience working in an allied health, nursing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Profession position.
Priority will be given to:

Eligible Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

Eligible applicants employed in rural, remote or regional Queensland.

Eligible applicants providing palliative care and end-of-life care in a paediatric palliative care setting.
How to apply
Applications for financial reimbursement are now open for 2025/26 educational conferences. Eligible employees interested in applying should:

All Queensland Health palliative care clinicians utilise leadership qualities and behaviours in their role, whether they are in a formal leadership position or leading patients and their families through care.
The Palliative Care Workforce Capability Uplift Program will provide a range of leadership programs to strengthen and enhance leadership capability for palliative care allied health, nursing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Profession workforces in Queensland Health.

Eligibility
To be eligible to register your interest in leadership programs, applicants must:

Be a palliative care health professional with at least two years cumulative experience working in an allied health, nursing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Profession position.

How to register
Spaces in each workshop will be limited. Once spaces have been exhausted you will still be able to register, but your details will be added to a waitlist, and we will be in contact with you should a place become available in your nominated workshop.
Queensland Health palliative care, nursing, allied health, nursing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Professionals are invited to complete the registration form to attend the leadership program.

Effective communication enables relationship building and sharing of information to support decision making. Good communication skills are vital for health professionals working with patients and families in the palliative care setting, to support their role and responsibility to lean sensitively and effectively into end-of-life conversations.
Partnering with Dr Jo Doran and Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service a Palliative Care Communication Skills training program will be delivered to support effective communication skills in allied health, nursing, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Professionals in palliative care to build relationships, share information and decision making to provide sensitive and effective end-of-life care.
