Post Graduate Study Scheme

The Post Graduate Study Scheme provides Queensland Health palliative care clinicians (allied health, nursing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Profession workforces) with access to complete a post graduate qualification to support enhanced capability of the specialist palliative care workforce.

Program information

Providing access to postgraduate education aims to support retention and growth of the specialist palliative care workforce whilst strengthening palliative and end-of-life care for Queensland individuals, families, and carers.

The Post Graduate Study Scheme will provide financial support to cover enrolment fees and student services and amenities fees (where applicable). The financial support will provide:

  • funding for up to $10,000 for one eligible Masters qualifications

  • funding for up to $5,000 for one eligible Diploma, Certificate or accreditation

Eligible qualifications:

  • Masters in Palliative Care

  • Masters of Counselling

  • Masters of Nurse Practitioner

  • Graduate Diploma in Palliative Care

  • Graduate Diploma in Counselling

  • Graduate Certificate in Palliative Care

  • Graduate Certificate in Counselling

  • Graduate Certificate in Bereavement Counselling and Intervention

  • Graduate Certificate in Trauma Responsive Practice

  • Specialist Certificate in Palliative Care

  • Certificate in Palliative Care

  • Professional Certificate in Wellbeing Leadership

  • Certificate in Palliative Care Lymphoedema Management

  • Palliative Care (PGC5118)

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Post Graduate Study Scheme, applicants must:

  • Be a palliative care health professional with at least two years cumulative experience working in a nursing, allied health or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Professional position.

  • Be a Queensland Health employee, employed in a permanent or temporary capacity in a palliative care setting in a Queensland Health hospital or health facility.

  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or New Zealand citizen.

  • Be eligible to enrol in the postgraduate qualification in which they are applying.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing palliative and end-of-life care that is person-centred, compassionate, culturally safe, and respectful of the preferences and unique cultural and spiritual needs of people affected by life-limiting illnesses, and their families and carers.

Priority will be given to:

  • Eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.

  • Eligible applicants employed in rural, remote or regional Queensland.

  • Eligible applicants providing palliative care and end-of-life care in a paediatric palliative care setting.
